Summer Abstract Tree Reflections

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

I am fascinated by the ways the human mind distorts reality in perception, memory, and imagination. In Waterscape: illusions I introduce a range of observers. Just as these voices keep their individual identities in the filmmaker’s thoughts, I keep them as separate strands but weave them through the film. As they form the fabric that is the film, a gap between human observation and reality becomes evident. At the same time another element, the film, the product of the filmmaker’s mind, reveals its filmmaking techniques and tricks and proves to be as much a myth as the fairy tales it contains. Individual viewers of the film will find their own meanings, rhythms, and connections among all of these threads as they see distinctions between fantasy and reality blur.
