WATERCOLOR ILLUSTRATIONS
The watercolor drawings that appear in the film to illustrate the filmmaker’s own fairy tale were conceived and created by Ann Deborah Levy. This story featuring a career minded heroine, flouts the conventions of traditional fairy tales. An orphan swan, unable to return to her family, creates a new life for herself by observing palace parties and counseling the chickens in a coop with the information and wisdom she gleans.
The more than 40 watercolor drawings range in size and shape, each determined by the way it was intended to be filmed. Drawings that were panned are scroll-like horizontals, ones shot as tilts are verticals, and those used as static shots are rectangles with the same proportions as the aspect ratio of the film frame. The smallest drawing is 15 x 17” and the longest is 15 x 108”. Even with the assistance of Julia Schwadron, the drawings took a year to execute.
The watercolor drawings will eventually be exhibited and available for purchase.
